Jammin’ with Rock Candy

A couple months ago we did a cover on the The Cover Models band. The guys in the band decided to replace themselves with super cute bikini clad girls for gits & shiggles. CV received inquiries (from people who didn’t read the article) as to how to contact this hot chic band, they we’re told to read the article and discover for themselves the facts behind the photo.
An all girl bikini clad rock band seems to be in high demand. But there isn’t one.
There is a new all female rock band though. Amy Lynn, Greta Turpin, Polly Hager & Tanja Resler make up the band Rock Candy. It all sounds sweet, right? They don’t wear bikinis on stage but they do rock. Rock Candy is more than what it might seem. There is no flaunting of flesh, or gimmicky girly-ness, no fashion statements or flashing of skin. They don’t play Cyndi Lauper or The Tin Tings. In fact the only thing girly about the band is the lack of male musicians. Make no mistake, Rock Candy was formed to prove to the crowds girls can rock too (aside from Natalie Wells).

Among Rock Candy’s set list you’ll hear, Humble Pie, Montrose, The Beatles, Aerosmith, Pink, The Donnas, Government Mule, Steve Miller, The Black Crowes, Led Zeppelin, The Bangles, Heart, Fleetwood Mac, Miranda Lambert, Bad Company and even Jimi Hendrix. A stand out tune for me (and the crowd judging by the applause) was a Motley Crue style version of Helter Skelter. The clear vocals and high note ability fit the song perfectly. It made you realize how much Vince Neil sings like a girl.
It seems odd but I have to admit somehow the female vocals fit every song they do. Up in front the guitarist keeps on the mark with all the six string work with relative ease. She took a few shortcuts but all in all, she played the classic masters well. The little beauty of a bass player seems quiet, almost shy, but her little fingers are precise when it comes to effortlessly jamming along to whatever tune comes next. In the back the tattooed drummer beats a mean beat. This girl works her ass off on that little stool. She drums like she just left Guns & Roses, she kinda looks like it too.

The band was formed this past winter and is just getting started with their live show assault, gigs at J&B’s and Win Place or Show were on the books
in October. But as of yet, we have no info on
upcoming show dates. Rock Candy only has a facebook and it has little in the way of show dates or videos. Ladies, get a simple site up! Load up some videos and audio (and bios). Most importantly, put up contact info! It will make it much easier for curious club owners to be able to book you. Which I’m sure many will do. Keep an eye on our site for their name, odds are if they are playing in Cincy, we’ll have the details.
