PUB GRUB

The Works
20 Grear Millitzer Pl.
Historic Loveland
697-8408

Driving down Loveland's main drag West Loveland Avenue you may not notice the old Firehouse just off the bike trail, behind the strip of buildings. Yet any local will tell you where it is with proud certainty.
Lovelanders love their Pubs, and the works fits the bill for any pub lover. Copper bars open fire brick oven, sunny patios and live bands
set the tone. Fresh brick oven pizza’s, sandwiches and cold beer quench the cravings.
I was picking out my pizza, sipping on an Arnold Palmer on the patio when I noticed a crab Cake hoagie. HUH? So much for the pizza I had
to have it. I am used to hoagies with JTM patties, fish filets, meatballs, or sliced sausage. “Crab Cake Hoagie” sounded a lot like a crab cake Po Boy to me. A Po Boy is a big sub roll stuffed with fried shrimp oysters or crab topped with lettuce, tomato and creole mayo. Aside from the Creole mayo this Crab Cake Hoagie was a “Po Boy “ (of sorts). No meager catch, this hoagie was stacked with 2 fat crab cakes and all the trimmings, the rest of the plate was piled with fries. I even had enough to share with my fellow Pub Grubber (who thought spinach and artichoke dip was a meal). The spinach and artichoke dip was good. Fresh leaf spinach, and large chunks of artichoke smothered in a creamy light cheese roux, served with fresh flour tortillas.
A sunny afternoon has to be enjoyed on the patio, next time I will come at dusk, try the pizza and listen to the band.
