Nearly every month we feature one fantastic slab of fish or another. It’s not always easy to find either. In fact it’s a gamble, whenever we see fish on the menu we have to wonder... is this some pre-breaded frozen piece of grey matter pollock? Or is this a fresh slab of white meat ready to be hand breaded and lovingly cooked to juicy perfection? Honestly we give it less than 50/50 unless we’ve tried it before. Usually those odds are dead on. Half the time we get served some greasy fish mush crap, the other half it’s decent. Every now and again (maybe 5% of the time) we get a nice surprise.
We’ve ate at Sleepy Hollow and we expect good food, when we saw they serve two styles of fish we ordered them both with no concerns about the quality. We were right to assume it would be good.
First, the Fish Sammich, rye bread, french fries, creamy coleslaw and homemade tartar sauce make this heaping dish a value at $8.75.
The other option is the Fish Dinner. Two slabs of hand breaded cod accompany your choice of two side items. We opted for the mashers with fresh chicken gravy and mac & cheese ($12.95). It was all good folks, every bite. No grey, no stink, no mush, just good fresh fish and crisp breading. Just as it should be. You could drink the awesome chicken gravy straight.
Speaking of chicken, Sleepy’s is famous for their Wednesday Chicken dinners and rightly so. If you think World’s Best Chicken is good you have to try Sleepy’s beautiful bird. It’s so popular they also do the chicken dinners on Sundays now too.
When your at Sleepy Hollow don’t forget to take a peak at the back of the menu, you’ll see a plethora of Mexican dishes listed there. Sleepy Hollow’s Mexican bests many Mexican joints (they put El Rancho Grande to shame!).
This Christmas pub has been known for great food and good times for decades. We’re proud to help spread that reputation a little farther. God knows they deserve it.
