Sidewinder

We’ve heard a lot about Sidewinder. Bar owners and fans have been tellin’ us we need to get out to the show and give it a gander. When we saw their booking at 11th Frame Lounge we knew we had to catch the show.
Some local bars already see a big ole following when Sidewinder plays. Sidewinder was relatively new to the 11th Frame though so we had no idea what kind of followin’ to expect to see. Actually we had no idea of what Sidewinder plays or even looks like.
Many band members look like patrons who have wandered up on stage. Sidewinders members were a lot more obvious. They look Southern, they act Southern, they talk Southern and they certainly can dish out some damn good down home Dixie rock n roll.
While most bands cringe at a drunken “LYNYRD SKYNYRD” rebel yell from the crowd Sidewinder smiles and embraces the Skynyrd songs as if they intended to play it next all along. What’s cool is they’ll jump all over Sublime, and Snoop just as fast as an Allman Bros. tune too. It seemed like they were in pretty good tune with the new crowd as well because everybody kept calling out songs and Sidewinder kept right on playing em’. I bet over 80% of the show or more was on the spot crowd requests. I’m not talking about some “do ya’ll play Johnny Cash” polite request during the break either. I’m talking about people yelling out “Play Copperhead Road!” from the back of the bar all loud and rowdy like.
Try as they may the patrons didn’t stump this band once. Sidewinder stepped up and busted out with those sweet southern rock n roll classics every time. Even the modern songs they cover are soaked in that great southern gravy. Why if they didn’t tell ya different you’d swear these ole boys were just trucked up here from sweet home Alabama herself, and what the hell is wrong with that.
These boys may have been born Yankee’s but in the years since then they’ve been born again with a Dixie soul. Amen.
Sidewinder is proving the sounds of the South will rise again, at least on their stage. Judging by all the whoop’n, hollar’n and dancin’ goin on I’d say the Eastside fans think that’s just fine.
Sidewinder puts on a solid show. Musically talented each and every one. They don’t just stand up there and play along either, they get it out and get it on. Keeping it fun and lively.
You really have to see them to understand, until you do you can check it out at www.eastsidevibe.com on our “bands” page. Or better yet get out to the Bad Habits show and get an up close and personal taste of the real thing. All of Sidewinder’s show dates are on our web site along with more pics and songs.
