A smokin’ school of rock

On the forefront of inspiring young rockers is The O.M.E.B School of Rock. Created by musician Mike Carr, the school is an awesome interactive method of teaching and inspiring young musicians. Mike is a multi-talentedhimself. His live shows consist of one man, a live guitar, live vocals and pre recorded bass-drums-rythym guitar-piano etc. If you think screw that... that’s Milli Vanilli just hold on a second. All of the prerecorded parts are also Mike playing! He plays and records each instrument and all the background vocals. Then plays over it live and sings. It’s a One Man Electrical Band.
Obviously someone with that level of talent has something to offer these kids looking to play real guitar instead of the toy “guitar hero”.
A couple times a year OMEB’s School of Rock students step up to a full blown show at OMEB’s recitals. The students get first hand knowledge of how to set up, troubleshoot equipment and play in front of a live audience. Not to mention, see what a wail of applause from a standing, screaming crowd can do for your motivation. We caught the show at Sports Page and this audience was live folks let me tell ya. Proud parents and cheering patrons flat went off when these kids busted out solos from heavy metal hit makers like Metallica. It is vexing to see those little teen fingers stretch the strings, tap and scale through power metal chords and never miss a note. It’s actually emotional. These weren’t even our kids but we still felt overwhelming pride and the occasional happy tear welling up over their performances.
OMEB is on to something awesome. His school of rock is bound to turn out some serious talents and we’ll be watching.
Don’t forget you can see OMEB’s show all month at Rong Tans every Thursday. It’s called “Grillin’ Out with OMEB” and it goes on from 9-close. It’s a good time all around.
