Upcoming show

Hello, my name is Sarah Martin. I am 29 years old and hail from Cincinnati Ohio. I am currently playing out around the Cincinnati area in any local bar or venue that will give me a date. I try to make it out to at least 2 open mic nights every month. I enjoy it, it's good exposure and it's great for meeting new people and hearing some great musicians perform. I have an acoustic duo with my brother Ashley Martin. We play mostly classic rock with a couple pop and country songs thrown in to break up the mix and are working our originals in slowly, but surely. I am also creating an email list for notifying friends and followers of our upcoming show dates. If anyone reading this would like to sign up please send me your name and email address to: sarahbrat@aol.com. I love what we do, however my ultimate wish is to eventually be the lead singer of rock band. I know it would be great stage experience and would give me a chance to really express myself and focus on my vocal abilities without the distraction of having to play all night, not that I don't love to play guitar. If I'm not in a band by summer of 2010 I think I'll just form one of my own! So now that you know what I do, let me tell you a little about my background. Music has always been a big part of my life. I come from a long line of songwriters and musicians and from a very young age I have been heavily influenced by my family's involvment in the creation of music. My dad and uncles had a band "Miracha" and a large part of their time was spent in their homemade recording studio that was set up in our basement. During the 70's and early 80's they arranged and recorded many songs in that room. And the coolest thing about it was that we ( my brother and I ) were never told to stay out. They actually encouraged and sometimes expected us to be in there. This type of early influence is really what moved me to do the same thing in my life. I got my first Fender acoustic when I was 16. I didn't really get started writing songs until my early 20's, but haven't stopped since. I now have stacks of notebooks with songs and ideas laying all over the place. I jot them down at work, I hang them on the wall- they're everywhere! "You Remind Me" was written about my daughter Jazzmyn, "Drive" is about my dream to make it in music and how badly I want it. Those songs are featured on this page and are 2 of the originals in our set list right now. We also play "Heaven In Your Arms" which my brother wrote about a failed relationship and "Wasted" which is my interperatation of becoming and remaining sober. The longer we play together the better it gets. I've got to admit it's not easy, but I absolutely love what I do!!! I've had plenty of formal training between voice, bass and piano lessons- soon to be guitar lessons, though I am self taught up to this point. I have played guitar consistently for 7 years. I spent 6 months recording different types of songs with my uncle's help. I learned about different recording techniques such as voice doubling, bouncing or "ping ponging" and mixing tracks. I also learned a lot about harmonizing, background singing and how a song is recorded, produced and how all the parts of a song need to be aligned and strategically layered to create the flawless finished product. This experience made me realize the importance of PERFECTION in this business. The importance of lessons, good timing, practing, listening, ear training, playing live and developing your skill- it all adds up in the studio. All of these past experiences and influences have conspired to make me the budding musician that I am today. I am so excited to be involved in music everyday, I never know who I'm gonna meet, where I'm gonna play and who's life I will connect with in the audience through my music. And whatever the future holds for me- producing, recording, performing, writing, I know one thing-I just want to make music. So here I am and I'm NOT going away! I have never wanted anything so bad in my entire life and I am absolutely determined to make this happen. I look forward to hearing from you on myspace or meeting you at an upcoming show. Thanks for your support, Sarah Martin
