Rockin’ For Rhinos
Cincinnati rocked out for rhinos on August 9, 2006.
A benefit concert ‘Rockin for Rhinos’ was hosted by the Cincinnati
Zoo and Botanical Garden at Rhinos Bar and Grill in Eastgate. All proceeds
from the event benefited the North American Save the Rhino Campaign. The
concert was conceived as a way to raise funds for rhino conservation and
increase the awareness of the major challenges faced in protecting wild rhino
populations.
Over the last 100 years, the number of rhinos in the wild has declined 98%.
Because the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden has been a leader in rhino
conservation and research, they horned in on the idea of hosting a benefit
concert to save these highly endangered species. The Cincinnati zoo exhibits
all three rhino species highlighted in the campaign, the Indian, Sumatran
and African black rhinoceros. In addition, it is the only institution to
successfully breed the most endangered rhino species, the Sumatran rhino.
Rhinos Bar and Grille graciously provided the venue for the event, offering
free hot dogs and $1 beers. The crowd rocked out to live music performed
by Raven Moon and the evening ended with a rhinoriffic raffle of donated
items. The night was a rockin’ success for all rhinos! For more information about the Zoo’s
