Pet Sense (Archives)

Rabbits, birds, ferrets, lizards, snakes, kittens, puppies, animal mothers and more.  Abandoned, injured, neglected, orphaned.  Pam Bradshaw, practice manager for All Creatures Animal Hospital, takes care of everyone and everything.  Pam runs the hospital’s non-profit, no kill adoption center, Friends of Noah.  With countless hours spent cleaning, medicating, attending and hosting fundraisers for homeless dogs and cats, Pam has a unique understanding and passion about pets and their humans; she gets the connection that a pet can create between them and the reward both feel.  So she makes it her mission to care for and place every animal she can - and she’s been very successful.

Alongside All Creatures practice owner, Dr. Daniel Meakin, Pam helps continually with procedures for these animals.  Dr. Dan provides low-cost surgeries and more.  What’s more, Dr. Wendy Lim gives her Sundays to spay and neuter Noah’s pets.
She’s helped people in far-reaching communities.  Pam’s passion and mission took her to Louisiana, where Hurricane Katrina left huge populations of homeless animals. With a clinic van loaded with medical supplies, FRONTLINE and HEARTGARD Plus (ivermectin/pyrantel), three volunteers, Pam left for disaster-ridden New Orleans.  Pam’s van was over-packed - just like her heart - so much so, the van rolled over twice while coming off an exit ramp.  The van was totaled, but it didn’t stop Pam and her volunteers.  They hitched a ride and pitched tents in swampy mud to deliver donated supplies to injured and misplaced pets.
Coworker Linda Follmer said, “No one deserves their story told more than Pam.  We are all lucky to have her as a friend, a boss, and a champion for ALL animals and their humans alike.  Thank you, Pam, for being there when we need help, and thank you for being a wonderful, knowledgeable, kind and caring friend, co-worker and boss.  You’re the best.”

Stop by Friends of Noah.  There are always loving, good natured animals needing homes.
All of our pets that we adopt out to their new homes have been examined by a veterinarian, spayed/neutered, microchipped, FIV/Feline Leukemia tested, vaccinated, dewormed, heartworm tested, and given a pre-adoption bath.
We do ALL THESE SERVICES below our cost just to get these pets into good homes.  Our pets are all friendly and well socialized. Any of them would make a wonderful addition to your family.  Please stop by! There are lots to choose from.

Recent cases at All Creatures.

This is Lai, a 16 week old puppy that was
brought in Tuesday.  Lai was attacked by another dog.  She was brought in with multiple puncture wounds to her ears, face, and neck as well as a large wound on her abdomen that actually had exposed part of her intestinal lining.  Emergency surgery was performed that evening (there were six areas found on the intestines that were punctured from the attack).  She is still recovering in the hospital area at All Creatures.  She has remained with us after the surgery for continued IV catheter fluid therapy, injectable antibiotics, and observation because had a high risk of severe infection.  She is doing very well and expected to go home Friday or Saturday.

Bernard is an 8 year old Labrador Retriever that was brought in Monday.  Bernard was also attacked by another dog.  He had several small bite wounds on his legs, and one on his abdomen area; however, the main concern for Bernard was his ear (it was shredded beyond repair).  Bernard went through surgery, the doctor debrided most of the pinna (cut off the dead tissue from the injury).  He is back at home with his family and recovering well.  He’ll be back in a few weeks to remove the sutures.

This is a picture of Tug, a 6 year old Chow who had a double enucleation (both eyes removed).  Tug was already blind in both eyes; however, the problems began to set in when the pressure of the eyes was building up and got too high (glaucoma).  Glaucoma is very painful and the best solution was to remove them.  Tug did very well through surgery and is now at home recovering.

IO, is an 8 year old uromastyx that was brought in to All Creatures because his lizard “roomate” attacked him.  IO had a large laceration on his side that needed daily cleaning and medicating, as well as injectable antibiotics.   His wound is healing up nicely and is also at home.  Uromastyxs are desert species that are omnivorous (they eat both plants and animals).
