Small Town Big Pizza

Owensville hasn’t been kind to restaurants. There’s just the Grammas that’s been there forever and a Subway in the BP. There used to be an Angilos, it finally tanked. Last year Country Cruz Inn fixed up the corner spot right proper with their new “Sonic style” drive inn. That fell hard and fast. They threw in the towel this fall. The cute little Cruz Inn seemed like a great idea that would liven up lonely Owensville. Guess again huh. What’s it take to make it in Mayberry? That’s the $100,000 question.
On November 19th the Fetter family shouted out their answer to all of Owensville (and beyond) with the grand opening of Old Boston Pizza. It’s news to us but Old Boston is the original name of Owensville (who were these Owens that re-named it and why?).
Mike & Marilyn Fetter own and operate the pizza parlor with help from both of their children. They told us, “We have talked about doing this for years... we own the plaza and we had the empty space so we finally did it.” The space is now filled with shiny new equipment and smiling pizza diners. The entire kitchen is open so you can watch the whole process.
Old Boston features a large menu, homemade crust and homemade sauce, ample seating and even pizza by the slice. Prices are low and they offer free 5 mile delivery. Initial sales have already exceeded expectation. The hours are from 10:30 a.m. - 10 p.m. daily. Old Boston Pizza 227 West Main Street, 732-2940.

We ate there for the first time tonight on the advice of friends. Really, really good pizza (crust in particular was fabulous) and the antipasto salad, which they said would feed two, was huge. Easily beats any of the local or chain pizza places in the area and is a good rival to the higher end places around here, including Dewey's, for flavor and quality. Definitely going back!

Was there for the first time yesterday with Marilyn's cousin Dan, the food and service were excellent. I've known Marilyn for many years, in fact we grew up together on the same street, she is an honest, quality individual who has and will continue to serve the community well. We wish her and her family continued success.

On another interesting note. Nothing at Old Boston is fried. Everything is baked even the amazing wings. Everything is fresh and as it says homemade. They use the most natural ingredients and I'm not sure if you've looked at the prices at the local supermarket but fresh from the vine food is not cheap. Low prices quality food who could ask for more. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

I love the small-town humor in the article! Ok, so I've been to Old Boston in Owensville. I can confirm it is delicious! The pizza was full of the good stuff, nothing chintzy. Friendly folks at the counter and the tables. When I go again tonight, I hope they have their carryout menus printed by now 'cause I'll order up more often then!
