The First And Only
Newtown Village Tavern
6778 Main Street 272-1313
Daryl Foster is a lifelong Newtown native. He loves his hometown, he works and lives there still to this day with his wife Andrea.
There is one thing Daryl never loved about living in Newtown though, no pizza. Can you believe that! Until 2006 there was zero, zilch, nadda, nothing in the way of delivered pizza. That’s just wrong.
Luckily for Newtonians, Daryl always wanted to own a pub. When Murphe’s on Main St. came on the market Daryl was right there to snatch it up. Now for those of you who may remember Murphe’s you know what it’s reputation was, those who don’t well, it wasn’t exactly the perfect place to take a date.

All that changed in 2002 after the Fosters took over. The whole business was new to the family. They had no previous experience but remodeling the inside was a no brainer. Out with the old dark and depressing and in with the new was first order of business. Bright, clean, fresh and family friendly the pub began to take shape. The food was still pub grub made behind the bar in an “Auto-fry” and a small convection oven. The chicken tenders and fries were accompanied on the menu by 6” Tony’s pizzas so the patrons had a little something to chew on. However Daryl still longed for hometown pizza and with the food permit hanging on the wall reminding him of his possibilities he thought “why not do pizza here?” Daryl was on a mission but wife Andrea had second thoughts to say the least. Daryl remembers, “she fought me and fought me, she felt it was a real bad idea... we needed to spend a lot of money to add on the kitchen to the building, buy all new equipment, get all the permits and so on... it really was a huge undertaking”. In the end Andrea decided to stand by her man and the ground was broke for a brand new brick addition for the pizza kitchen.
That was winter of 05, by spring of 06 Village Pizza was open for pick-up or delivery. After decades of being pizza-less Newtownians finally had their share of the pie too. It’s been two years since the oven was fired up and now the pizza business makes more than the pub. All the pizza sales has inspired a few new changes around the place as well. The pub’s pool table went out the door to make room for a new family dining area and the outdoor dining area was created to span the length of the building and seat at least another 5 or 6 families.

Someone with this much dedication to opening Newtown’s first and only pizza parlor wasn’t interested in skimping on the pies either. They started off by making mediums the size of other places large, delivering to a huge area from the Polo Fields to Indian Hill, even to Beechmont & East End, until 2:30 a.m. on weekends and they love every minute of it.
The proof is in the pudding (or the pie in this case) and that’s were Village Pizza shines the brightest of all. It’s good pizza too (similar to Donatos except bigger, cheaper, way less salty and a more flavorful sauce). Watch the game, eat the pizza, sit outside and relax, eat the pizza, go on a casual date, eat the pizza. Here’s a perfect example of what’s right about America. Good people, good food and hometown pride!
