Eastside Vibe Review

Fall fishing is arguably some of the best fishing of the whole year. Last year the weather held out all the way to December and you could still snag those bass with only a light jacket and some expertise. September is prime bass time and if you haven’t been lucky at your regular hot spots you should get over to Monterey Lake.
Monterey Lake has a long history of bass fishing. It started off generations ago as a man made fishing lake and the bass have been spawning there ever since. You’ll find a lot more than bass too, perch, crappie, blue cats, channel cats, war mouths, blue gill and others are abundant in the lake.
One of the nice things about fishing Monterey Lake is the boats. You get your own two person boat complete with a trolling motor. This enables you to zip around from cove to cove and find the hot spots as the sun changes. The boat also comes with a special floating cage to keep the big ones in. They’ll be as fresh and healthy at the end of the day as they were when you caught them. Your allowed keepers so this might come in handy. Think fresh fish fry. Mmmm.
Monterey Lake also features a Bass Tournament every other Thursday with a $100 first place prize. 2nd. and 3rd. place also walk with cash prizes as well. So if your one of those people who think you can always catch the most put your money where your mouth is and get in the game. Beware you have stiff competition. After all just look at the 5 pound bass in the photo, I hope your used to snagging the big ones otherwise you’ll get taken by surprise and lose it. Whether you came to relax or to claim that $100 prize Monterey Lake is an affordable way to enjoy the day. Pro’s and amateurs alike enjoy the fishing and beautiful scenery. Bring your girlfriend along, If she can’t catch a fish she can still lay back and catch a tan while she teases you about the “ones that got away”. If she’s anything like Amy Kettenacker (pictured) she’ll be giving you a run for your money on that hundred bucks!
Monterey Lake is easy to find, it’s located on Rt. 50 just pass Owensville (almost exactly at the Jackson Township line). In fact, it’s only 12 miles east of the Milford Parkway exit. Go just pass Owensville and look for the Jackson Township sign, you’ll see the boat house and sign just off the road on the North side of the street.
You can also book the lake for private parties, tournaments, company picnics or a great birthday “bass fishing bash” for the kids. It’s a unique and stimulating way to put a cool spin on just about any celebration. Rates are reasonable and everything but your tackle is included.
After all these years the lake is as vibrant as ever and still providing Eastsiders with an exciting place to catch nice clean fish. You don’t have to worry about those overzealous “wannabe cop” park rangers like over at East Fork either. This is a family owned and operated business.
At Monterey Lake they treat you like guests, not potential arrests. Your encouraged to have fun and relax. I say they deserve your business for that principle alone.
