The Midnight Rain Band

The Midnight Rain Band was formed back in the mid 90’s by Scott Dunford. With varying musical backgrounds, Scott pulled together other likeminded musicians to form a group which embodied the “Young Country” style of music defined by the 90’s. With powerful vocals and an aggressive concert style approach to every performance, Midnight Rain helped to define the local country music scene. Over the years, Midnight Rain has had it’s share of highlights. We have had the privilege of performing at several of the areas best honkytonks, night spots, and festivals. We have also opened for numerous national acts and even had the opportunity to headline several venues.
As can be said for most artists, Midnight Rain has also seen it’s own share of disappointments. With members moving on to other avenues, the lineup of Midnight Rain has changed over the years. Through it all, adversity breeds strength and the
current lineup of Midnight Rain is by far the best lineup the band has ever had to offer.
If you are looking for something new, this is the band. The Midnight Rain Band is a well rehearsed band offering a great live sound and performance each and every show. Their crisp vocals and harmony’s along with their smooth driving sound keeps their audience coming back for more.

Band Members

Scott Dunford: Lead Guitar & Vocals
Scott comes from a long line of musicians and singers. He began playing guitar at family jams and singing in the school show choir at age fourteen. When Scott turned twenty-three, his Dad introduced him to dim lights, thick smoke and Honky-Tonk Music.
Scott has always listened to a wide range of music growing up. His musical start was in the early 90’s playing guitar for Hard Rock Bands. In the mid 90’s, a new sound called “Young Country” was taking heed. Brooks-n-Dunn, Tracey Lawrence and David Ball were a few of the country artists that caught his ears and eyes. Shortly there after, Scott formed a country band that would allow him to experiment with his vocal, playing, writing and creative style. With his years of hard work on and off the stage, Scott has ended up where he belongs, “With the Honky-Tonk Crowd". With the years of experience fronting Midnight Rain, Scott has developed into a solid country picker, singer, song-writer and entertainer. His dedication and drive has given him and his band,
Midnight Rain, a well recognized name in the Tri-State area.

Mike Hensley: Percussion
Like Scott, Mike was raised around music in southeastern KY where Renfro Valley artists and shows inspired him. Mike has played various venues from Bourbon House Blues Company in LA to recording commercials for television ads in studios to creating
marching percussion arrangements. Mike joined Midnight Rain in August ‘09. He was a
breath of fresh air for the band. His drive and passion for music stepped up the bands sound. Mike’s true love of entertaining is obvious. He loves to meet new people and mix it up with the crowd in between sets and tries to thank each person that comes out to see us.

Rick Luna: Bass Guitar & Vocals
Growing up on the desert plains of southwest Texas, Rick learned to play bass by listening to and playing along with Jack Bruce of Cream and John Entwistle
of The Who. Inspiration of these two great musicians are evident in his style and sound of bass guitar. Since arriving in the Cincinnati area in 2002 Rick has played several genres of music including: blues, country and rock. One of his most memorable gigs
occurred years ago on the campus of New Mexico State University where his band held a crowd of several hundred partiers late into the night. Rick firmly believes in the following slogan: "If you don’t enjoy what you are doing, then change it. If you can’t change it, then change your attitude. Adjust it to what you are doing".

Butch Determan: Keyboards & Vocals
Butch started performing in live bands in the 60’s. He played with such bands as Nibroc, J.P. Fogg, Glory Daze, Captain Jack & Rockwell. His influences range from Leon Russell, John Lord, Mickey Gilley and Duane Allman. Butch never gets tired of playing the keys. Butch is the perfect example of a true musician. He is a great entertainer, extremely talented singer and pianist. More importantly, Butch is one of those rare people who manages to make each and every person in the audience feel like they are part of the band.
