The grand opening of MJ’s on Main was kicked off Monday April 26th. For those who don’t know by now, MJ’s took over the Milford Latitudes location. The personal event featured a cool appetizer buffet with menu items such as crab & shrimp cocktail, Cuban sandwiches, muffulettas, a flat bread Philly, chicken salad, jambalaya and an awesome Ahi tuna eggroll were offered.
This food is too good to breeze thru but to impressive to consolidate here. We’ll start with one that hit us hard right off the bat, the flat bread Philly. Thin sliced minced steak, provolone and pepperoncinis on a grilled flat bread sounds too simple to be this good. The first Philly flavor to nudge past Penn Station to date in our opinion.
The Ahi Tuna eggroll was a whole loin, rubbed in cilantro and Wasabi, rolled tightly, flash fried and dressed with a Asian soy. Freakin’ fabulous. Crisp and hot on the outside, a warm soft center and a serious nasal cleaning kick of Wasabi when you least expect it.
The jambalaya we sampled was rich, smokey and chock full of Andouilli, shrimp and chicken.

The cold shrimp & crab cocktail was a huge hit. This new take on an old classic will have you wishin’ you had a bigger fork. Lump crab and shrimp get smothered in lime juice with a breath of cumin and a pinch of secrets then chilled. It’s bright, fresh and the big crabs lumps are a rare find. This must be expensive to make. We are headed back to try the crab cakes. If MJ can showcase flavors with such intensity with a simple dish like crab & shrimp cocktail just imagine what her crab cake is like!

There is much on the new menu that beckons to be discovered. MJ’s on Main’s menu is clear, concise and features a well rounded spectrum of flavors. Vegetarians have not been left out nor are treated to “second class” options as many places offer. The reason springs from the root of MJ’s concept; local, super fresh, ripe, quality ingredients that shine just fine with a simple whisper of herbs, spices and wine. Keep it simple, let the fresh asparagus’s love light shine. That’s the philosophy. We love it. MJ has a long culinary history that spans print and TV. She can still be seen on The Food Network and Channel 9. She’s been cooking, creating and enjoying food for a long time. The new MJ’s on Main is the culmination of decades of practice and refinement of her craft. Her goal is to provide patrons with an entertaining evening featuring fine fresh flavors, “too good for your own good” cocktails and smooth music. All catered to your desire of course by a well qualified staff. This little lady has something cookin’ and it ain’t just the Sweet Chipotle Baby Back ribs either people.

While at the grand opening we were entertained in style by solo pianist Cybele. She plays a wide variety of classic and modern hits. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a solo piano singer and we must say it is refreshing. Much of that feeling is due to Cybele’s clear vocals and effortless dancing across her keys of course, so all kudos to her. You can see Cybele at MJ’s every Tuesday.
All the chefs and staff deserve a “damn good job” and a free beer. You painted MJ’s vision on the porcelain canvas with professionalism. And MJ, you and your husband have brought to life a true 2010 experience for folks to enjoy. Welcome to the world MJ’s, we’re glad to have ya.
