Everybody knows fast food sucks. Here's some grub that packs a punch but won't put a hole in your pocket. Making their home on the hill in Mt. Washington Los Portales has invited us all to sample their ample entree's. Taking over the Tumbleweed at 32 and the levy, this casual cantina cleaned out the Texas and ushered in the Cabo. Clean, fresh and firelit, you'll be sitting pretty regardless of your seat.
We were hankerin' for a big meal and opted to skip the lunch specials. Although with prices from $3.95-5.95 it was a hard decision. Instead I antied up the extra $2 for the Combos entree. 26 choices and combinations makes it a bit of a task to choose from, however the #16 (pictured), one enchilada, one burrito and one chile relleno cought my eye. Hot meaty fresh and steaming, they came out just as we were licking the bowl clean from our free fresh chips and salsa. I didn't weigh it but I bet it's about 3lbs. at least! Cheese and two sauces covered the plate, one enchilada and one onion. Underneath it all, a beef burrito sittin' pretty next to the enchilada and the big Poblano pepper overstuffed with cheddar and potatoes. My lunch compadre also opted to spend the $2 more and chose the Enchiladas Poblanas, and there was no problems with these poblanas either. Stuffed and sauced these meaty, messy, mexican favorites were mouthwatering. Both entree's were $7.75 lunch specials are $5.95 and under. Other offerings makin' the mexi-menu are, steak, shrimp, and tilapia served in a variety of dishes and sauces every one sounding very good. A full bar and happy hour drink specials almost made me have them mix up a margarita. Check out this happy hour deal.....1/2 off EVERYTHING ! (3-6 p.m.) With all the menu options, veggie, beef, chicken, shrimp,steak, fish and kids meals for $3.75 I'm sure you'll find something to please your palate. I have plans to sample them all sooner or later, as well as sip on some of those simple pleasures served up at the bar. Senors and senoritas get of the garbage lunches and get into the great grub this locale Los Portles is dishing up. Mexican in Mt. Washington has never been better.
