Giving The Gift Of Gourmet
You often see canned food drives for the homeless. We all try to give (we should be that is) as much as we can but do we donate that $20 canned crab meat or the Russian Roe Caviar? Maybe not. I suspect the shelter that receives the canned donations has a lot of creamed corn and water chestnuts on the menu. Throw in a few “Spaghetti O’s” and some pumpkin pie filling and you have a nice hot well rounded meal, right? Wrong, and you know it.
Latitudes Cafe (Anderson) knew it too so they decided to give the homeless a taste of what we take for granted... gourmet grub. We dine regularly at Latitudes, Cumin and the like. We’ve even come to expect meals like the food porn we see on the TV. We’re food spoiled while some are simply starving.
Ex-employee Becca thought it would be nice to give the homeless a true culinary treat. She went to Chef Dan and he quickly put together a 300+ person meal (even after both his product sponsors backed out at the last minute due to EV coverage).
At the downtown shelter, it was freezing outside but inside the aroma of sizzling far east spices and steaming rice warmed you before the heat did. The Latitude’s staff set up their line while the real line formed before their very eyes. Over 300 people patiently waited, inching along to get their gourmet grub. No “Spaghetti O’s” nor creamed corn. It was delicious, gourmet and free. Now that’s a donation!
Now that’s a food drive,
