John Ford
I am John Ford (Born “Larry Dean Ford” Son of Hobert & Foneva, Brother of Martin). Stole my cousin’s name because there’s another Larry Ford (The Gospel Singer) that’s a lot better known than I am and because “Larry” sounds like “Larry the Cable Guy” and I can’t tell jokes all that well. As you can sense I have big hang up about the name change thing. Anyway, I write songs, play guitar and sing. I live near Cincinnati, Ohio with my wife Pam, and our daughter Eva. Played with a band called "Rubber Soul" from 1981 to 1986. We played - (give you one guess) Classic Rock before the term was being used by every radio station in the country, had a song on WEBN's Album Project in 1986 - I saw The Replacements in 1985, which kind of changed my perspective on music - Started a band called "The Zero" in 1987 - did original music for next to nothing (Although we did play with Government Cheese (Tommy Wommack’s old band) in Lexington KY a few times and got to warm up Guadalcanal Diary) The Zero fizzled out in 1993. Formed a band called Einstein Splatter which eventually became The Einsteins in 1996 with Kevin Fox, Jason Phelps (The Reds are on the Radio Dude) and Jason Armstrong, had a song on Pepsi Jammin on Main CD Sampler '98 - The Einstiens were done by 1998. In 2002 tried the Alt Country Thing with "The Forty Watt Rodeo" everyone was in other projects so we could hardly ever play - it lasted till 2003. At present I’m playing solo acoustic guitar at various venues, most of which are not bars. As Dad use to say "I wonder if Elvis got started this way" Just to let you know where I’m coming from, my influences include – Chris Smither, John Prine, Elliot Smith, Damien Jurado, Son Volt, Wilco, The Lemonheads, Pavement, The Pixies, Husker Du, The Replacements, Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, British Invasion, Delta Blues, Rhythm & Blues / Soul.
