Eastside Vibe Review

Rhinos is known for having the best in live music. I’ve seen most of my favorite Cincy bands there and many new bands I’ve come to love. I remember when Rhinos didn’t even have bands at all! I think the Menus were the first band to really get the owners fired up about the potential a premiere band bar could have here on the Eastside. They have been booking the best they find ever since.
I see a lot of bands I’ve never heard of being booked at Rhinos and I always think the same thing..”well they must be good or they wouldn’t have them playing” so far I think it’s been pretty true. Livid got their first real start at Rhinos and now their very popular.
Haze Effect has been listed in EV so many times now it’s not funny. I see them booked all the time at K.C.’s (who also has great bands yet sometimes is overlooked), Bad Habitz, (another good band venue on Saturdays) and many other local Eastside pubs.
All that repetition must have got my mind stuck on the name because as soon as I saw they were booked at Rhinos I got the camera and headed out to the show.
Haze Effect plays a steady stream of current rock hits. They throw in a lot of great classics but I’d say their overall style is more WEBN than the FOX. Maybe 94.9 is a better comparison.
Whatever their playing they give it their all. With a strong on stage presence they keep the crowd entertained. They even have a guest singer from time to time and she really fits in well. The bands seems to have a specific set list tailored to her vocal talent. It’s cool.
One of the most unusual things the band members do is switch instruments. The bassist and guitar player trade back and forth and each play both effortlessly. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before. It makes you realize how talented they really are.
It’s almost hard to tell who is the lead singer or lead guitar player as they change it up depending on the songs. I suppose you could almost say both the guitarist and the bassist are lead players and singers.
They got the “pleasing the crowd” thing figured out. They kick into the requests as often as they can and keep the vibe fresh with their set list. I think they have the makings to go far if they keep getting booked the way they have been. Their June
schedule looks pretty full and Eastside dates are plentiful. Check them out at a pub near you. You’ll dig it the most.
