The Eastside is home to many haunted places, most Eastsiders are well aware of this. What they may not be aware of is that the Eastside is also home to a professional paranormal investigative team that tries to shed some light in those dark shadows of the unknown.
G.H.O.S.T is the acronym for Ghost Hunters Of Southern-Ohio Team. Created by Noah Maisel and Sean Moeller, the team investigates paranormal phenomenon with professional tactics and scientific equipment. Unlike some T.V. ghost hunters our Eastside team stays away from the theatrics and focuses solely on the science.
Sean and Noah are not searching for proof ghosts exist. They both experienced a first hand account of severe paranormal activity at the young age of 12. Merely hours after Noah’s father suffered a tragic death, the family home was suddenly alive with doors slamming, things moving, dishes breaking and the like. This activity took place amongst many witnesses... including local police.
It’s a personal story Noah will gladly share with interested listeners but be warned, it’s dark, violent and enlightening. Childhood friend Sean and his family were there to comfort and support Noah through this tragedy. That friendship remains to this day as well as the thirst to understand more about why spirits are among us and what we can learn from them.
You won’t find any doctored stories or fake photos in their accounts. However you will find some hair-raising EVP (electronic voice phenomenon) recordings and other evidence that appears to come from beyond the grave in their Eastside ghost hunting experiences.
Every Halloween we typically re-tell the tales of all the Eastside haunted places that have been the focus of many rumors over the years. This issue we decided to dismiss the rumors and stick to the real deal.
EV enlisted the help of G.H.O.S.T and set out to investigate a few of these well known haunts in an effort to discover if any evidence could be collected to prove or dis-prove any of these supposedly haunted places. The results were intriguing.

StoneLick Covered Bridge . Built in 1878 it is the last covered bridge in Clermont County. Rumors of ghosts hanging from an adjacent tree and other apparitions have always surrounded the bridge. A quick Google search will reveal many testimonials about cults and mysterious vehicles chasing the curious away at break neck speeds then vanishing. The “evil” farmhouse nearby that lights up as many windows as people in your car is just the icing on the cake. Devils Food cake of course.
Undaunted by the prospect of being chased, captured or even sacrificed EV and G.H.O.S.T. set up the investigation on a dark foggy silent Sunday night. The G.H.O.S.T team was armed with electronics and everyone strained in near silence, awaiting a sign. Our EV camera photos showed no orbs or glowing apparitions, the team’s infrared device detected no invisible entities and the motion sensors beeped only on our own passing.

All was silent for quite some time until Sean’s EMF (electro magnetic field) detector started showing some unusual activity. Sean repeatedly called out for a response from anyone listening and several times the EMF responded. The bridge light array and ballasts were eliminated as suspects and no mechanical reason for the EMF signals were found. The EMF reading peaked the teams curiosity so much they plan to come back for a longer more extensive investigation soon.
The rumors of strange behavior from nearby cults, homes and residents were left unfounded. However the rumors of a ghost on the bridge may have ever so slightly revealed itself to indeed have merit.

The Newtown House . Built in 1865 This stately mansion is said to have ties to the underground rail road. It even still has hidden underground rooms intact. The team claims some documentation even points towards a “hanging house” on the property although others dispute the claims. As if that wasn’t enough to conjure images of ghosts and haunting apparitions the home is a stones throw from a church which is said to be built on a native American Indian burial ground. My god, it’s a wonder the house isn’t so haunted anyone can even stay the night in it!
The home has been the center of many paranormal experiences as testified by the people who have lived there. There has even been full bodied apparitions seen in the home. The most recent resident moved out because of a feeling of “uneasiness”. The home remains vacant to this day. However the G.H.O.S.T team is certain the house is quite occupied, regardless of being vacant.
The teams investigation revealed strong activity throughout the home and especially in the attic. While conducting scientific recordings in the home the attic revealed the ghost of a small female child. The little girl is known to be scared of visitors at times, curious and somewhat playful at other times. Noah says “She especially enjoys a good game of hide & seek. She has even been known to climb up on people”. Harmlessly of course. Exactly who she is or why she remains is a mystery, nevertheless evidence supports that she does remain.
While the team was in the home they noted the doors to the butlers pantry closed, yet when they returned moments later they were open. “It would only happen when you weren’t looking directly at them” Noah explained. Sean also tells us “We could take anyone to that house and they would believe (in the ghosts), I could take you up to the attic and if you just sat there quietly... eventually she would come out, she gets scared but she comes out after she gets the feel of you. There is a lot of activity in that house”.
No one knows for sure if the ghosts are troubled souls from the slavery era, ancient Indian spirits or former residents. Just as no knows who the little girl ghost is that resides in the attic. One thing that is known is that after the 37’ flood the residents of the Newtown house
moved to the Promont House. It is also known to be haunted and there is also evidence to the fact. Unfortunately the Promont House representative quickly quashed any hopes EV had of investigating there. “We don’t want people to focus on that” was all we were told. Spend a dark and moonless night alone in either home and ghosts may be the only thing your focused on. Regardless of what image your trying to convey to the pubic, your mind knows the truth.
It is interesting to note while taking this photo of the Newtown House the EV photographer’s (incredibly reliable & trusted) cell phone started acting erratically and failed to function for quite some time. The battery and signal strength were 100%. The phone was reset and re-charged yet no apparent cause was ever found for the malfunctions. It was nearly 24 hours before it returned to normal. The phone always performed perfect before the photo shoot. Coincidence or not? Only the ghosts know for sure.

Lucy Run Cemetery. The story surrounding this place is that of a girl named Lucy Robinson who in the Spring of 1797 was seeing a young man who came to her on a dark and rainy night to tell her he was in love with another women. After an argument the young man rode away on his horse and Lucy followed after him. A flash flood on the road that is now known a Lucy Run caused her to be thrown from the horse and drown. To this day her figure in white has been seen crossing or standing next to the road, she is said to be wearing a flowing white dress and veil that covers her face.
The G.H.O.S.T team’s investigation encompassed the cemetery, street and creek. No electronic anomalies were found. EV’s photos showed no signs of orbs, mists or what-have-you and no sightings were noted either.
As it stands we have no evidence from our investigation. However Noah explains “We need to return to this site and spend some time... being very quiet and patient... often things do not become apparent at first, sometimes it takes time”. G.H.O.S.T. plans to come back to this location with electronic equipment and monitor the site more closely for an extended period of time in the hopes of getting a glimpse of Lucy. We’ll keep you posted.
The Clough Pike House. This private suburban residence is home to many strange occurrences. The residents contacted G.H.O.S.T and asked the team to come and investigate the home. The residents claim they have seen pictures turned face down, items moving, doors closing and even covers pulled up off their feet in the middle of the night. Their small children have been seen by the parents talking to people who were not there and made comments about seeing people in the home.
The G.H.O.S.T team’s investigation turned up strong evidence in the form of EVP recordings, photo and video evidence. The family continues to reside there and wishes to remain anonymous. You can see & hear the recordings for yourself on our web site www.eastsidevibe.com/ghost Be prepared to get creeped out! It appears the Clough Pike house is never unoccupied... even when no one is home.

Outside The Eastside. The G.H.O.S.T team has investigated many Eastside sites, yet to date one of the most extraordinary investigations the team has conducted was the Waverly Hills Sanatorium site in Louisville KY.
At least 63000 souls lost their life in this place and the paranormal activity has been reputed as one of the most haunted places in the world. It has been featured in many television shows including Fox’s World’s Scariest Places. The individual accounts of ghosts are too numerous to be mentioned in detail here (there is a wealth of information online). There are testimonies of a little boy ghost named Bobby who plays with his ball, a little girl ghost who plays hide & seek, lights that shine at night even though there is no power in the building, doors slamming and most frightening of all a nurse who is seen running out of building screaming “Help me” with her wrists slashed. Children’s voices have also been heard singing “Ring Around The Rosie”
One remarkable incident from our Eastside G.H.O.S.T team’s investigation is too creepy to be omitted. On this occasion Sean and Noah were trying to communicate to any ghosts present during an EVP session in a room called Room 502. Room 502 is the location of a nurse’s mysterious suicide, she threw herself from the window. A second 29 year old nurse also hung herself in this room. Many report seeing a full bodied apparition in this area. During the EVP session the team heard no audible sounds and moved on to other areas. Later when examining the recording they found unknown voices having a boisterous conversation in the seemingly silent room. The voices spoke of the nurse who had hung herself in room 502 from a light fixture after an affair with a doctor turned horribly wrong. This was later proved true. The remarkable thing was the voices also talked about an aborted baby, the product of the affair being disposed of in a nearby creek. After meeting with Waverly Hills authorities the team found out that this also was rumored to be true however the Waverly Hills authorities were shocked to hear the account as no record of the rumor was ever released to the public. To our knowledge EV is the first publication to make this super secret incident publicly known.
The EVP, photo and video evidence from the Waverly Hills investigation is available on our site. Also check out www.underworldtales.com/waverly.htm for more details about the Waverly Hills Hauntings. Official information about the site and tour info is available at www.therealwaverlyhills.com We have compiled all the G.H.O.S.T Waverly Hills investigation files and photos for our readers to enjoy.
