Eastside Vibe Review

What's Cookin'

There’s a new biz on the block and it’s truly smoking. More fire than smoke actually but you get the point. Fuji Hibachi Steak House remodeled and reopened the old Damons in Eastgate square. You might remember a feeble Asian attempt last occupied the space and we all know how well that went. It may even be the shortest lived restaurant around here to date. You’d never know it was ever anything other than a Japanese Hibachi Grill now.
Fuji has done an excellent job with the interior and exterior work. On the outside large colorful Japanese style architecture was incorporated into the front walkway, it looks like it was always meant to be. Inside you walk in to a large bar it’s both a liquor and sushi bar. Ample seating and big plasmas are situated around the sleek dark wood. All of the sushi is on display and prepared to order by razor sharp sushi chefs as you watch.
It all looks fresh and delicious and not a whiff or whisper of fish can be detected. That’s a great sign.

Lunch or dinner diners are given the option of a table, booth or Hibachi Grill seating (no extra charge). Go for the Hibachi Grill. If you’ve been to one you know, if not you need to try it. The skilled chefs command your attention the entire time. The chefs put on an entertaining show as they are creating the meal. The experience incorporates dazzling fire, precision knife work, and a free Asian cooking lesson. They are serious about cooking but do their best to crack you up at the same time. One nice thing about Hibachi is you don’t have to wonder about what’s in the food. Each meal starts with all the raw fresh ingredients and the chef explains each spice and sauce he is using as he goes along. It’s like a live Food Network show. Except you get to eat it all.
The Hibachi prices are the same as regular Asian take-out prices. Fuji will flash fire grill your lunch or dinner table side with no extra charges.
Hibachi Lunches will run you $6.95 for veggie, $7.95 for chicken, $8.95 for steak, salmon, calamari or shrimp, $9.95 for scallops and $10.95 for filet mignon.
Not bad.

There’s also Hibachi Combos, Steak & Shrimp or Steak & Chicken for $11.95 and Shrimp & Chicken for $12.95. Other than adding Japanese flat noodles or fried rice for $1.50 there is nothing else to spring for other than your drinks (there is a full bar available too).
Hibachi Dinners range from $10.95 to $29.95. During dinner Fuji shows off their New York Strip Steak, Filet Mignon, Jumbo Shrimp, Scallops, Salmon and Lobster Tail dishes.
Don’t have $40 to spend on dinner? You can get the full Hibachi experience during lunch for under $20 for two people, or you can go for one of Fuji’s “Lunch Box” dishes. The Lunch Boxes are a unique introduction to Fuji’s food. They are inexpensive and quite varied. You can choose from Beef Negimaki ($8.95), Teriaki Chicken ($6.95), Spicy Chicken ($6.95), Teriyaki Salmon ($7.95), Shrimp & Vegetable ($7.95), Shrimp Tempura & Shrimp Teriyaki ($11.95), Shrimp Tempura & Chicken Teriyaki ($9.95), Shrimp Tempura & Beef Teriyaki ($10.95), Shrimp Tempura ($11.95) or Vegetable Tempura & Sauteed Vegetables ($8.95).

If that’s not enough variety to please you, you have bigger problems than dining out. Stay home, order a pizza and stay off the streets. For the rest of us, Fuji offers a unique dining experience that can satisfy any appetite for lunch or dinner. Raw, fried, or flame grilled you can find an old favorite on the menu or be adventurous and make a new one.

Amazing. Went there out of curiosity, and could not expect a better environment. With friendly staff, delicious food, a comedic cooking show, and child friendly environment; I could have not expected a more perfect evening. I never do these comment things and really hope that my word of mouth will cause interest for others because those guys really deserve it after the rapport i felt tonight!
