Eastside Vibe Review

If you have not seen The Dan Varner Band you should. They play the Eastside at least 3 times a week. They are all Eastsiders and talented Eastsiders indeed. Dan Varner (lead vocals/guitar) takes threads of Merle Haggard's classic country sound and skillfully weaves them into his own contemporary craft. His soulful singing sounds so thoroughly southern you would never guess he’s a Turpin boy. He may have born a Yankee but he’s Dixie down to his toes. Maybe his first six string had the dixie disease...he caught it on his fingers and it just crawled right up his sleeves. However he caught it, it is definitely contagious. Brad Kelly (lead guitar/vocals) shares the same symptoms, his guitar is definitely dixie. Graceful as the Grateful Dead, skippin’ and pickin’ like ricky Scaggs, all six strings sing with all the southern soul of a country choir. Backing it all up on the bass is Chris Perault. Just like his band mates Chris plays smooth and soulful. Confident and melodic his bass sets tone for this harmonious band of balladeers.

I hope to see the band here on the Eastside as often as I can as I am sure they will be down south in Nashville recording (again) and on their way to a national tour. Check out the show it’s a damn good time. You can preview the band at danvarner.com, you can hear their original songs get the bios and more.
