Crazy Bean Cafe

What do you do when your long term career gets suddenly cut short due to the current corporate economic climate? Go on unemployment? Sink into depression? Go take a crap $7 an hour job and bitch, scrimp and save until social security comes around.... if ever? For some maybe, but for ex-P&G employee Kevin Pennington the answer was to take what money you have left, leave the corporate bull sh#t behind and embrace the mom & pop grassroots economic philosophy by opening up a small local business.

Kevin opened Crazy Bean Cafe this past March. He didn’t just sign a lease, stock up at Sam’s and open the doors either. Kevin actually studied gourmet coffee making first, he even roasted his own beans. The cool part is Kevin didn’t even need to leave town to do it. Mt. Lookout’s “Lookout Joe’s” provided all the training and experience (as well as all the beans) to turn Kevin into a gourmet coffee chef.
Armed with his new knowledge and a strong desire to create a top quality product served with first rate service Kevin leased a defunct coffee shop (ex-Promises) on Ohio Pike. In less than two months he and his family had the interior pleasantly decorated, the complex brewing machines mastered as well as his simple concept solidified.

The concept? Serving nothing but screamingly fresh coffee, using only the damn fine beans from Lookout Joe’s (ground on site) accompanied by fresh made wraps and sandwiches (including hot breakfast sandwiches). Along with a few dozen fresh baked muffins & pastries from Anderson’s “Flour Power” sitting pretty in the display cases he opened the doors March 6th at 5:30 am sharp. The cars and compliments have been rolling in ever since (along with some much needed cash).

When you drive down 125 look for the Crazy Bean sign, it’s right next door to St. Thomas More. Stop in and grab a cup of Kevin’s gourmet joe, pair it up with a fresh wrap or turnover and watch the smiles light up Kevin’s face. He’s good people, he treats people like good people and he’s dedicating his entire day (and much of his night) to making you feel certain your money was well spent. That’s what mom & pop business is all about. It’s a basic economic principle that’s nearly forgotten. It’s the foundation of Crazy Bean.
That’s why local joe lovers have to give Crazy Bean a try. The good folks there are working hard to earn your business (unlike some places where they act as if they simply expect it). Besides, from the 50+ bean varieties Lookout Joe’s roasts you’ll find at least 22 of them in rotation and ready to brew on any given day. The wholesome grub is as good as you’ll find and better than most. The wifi is flowing and the service is simply second to none. People say “Home is where the heart is” but we beg to differ. It’s quite obvious “Work is where the heart is” for Kevin... and the fam. We think that’s just as it should be, but rarely ever is.
