The Eastside has just about every treat to suit your tastes, including good Indian food.
You can get O.K. Indian at Royal Taj but if you want good Indian you’ll be glad to know you don’t have to go to the city. You just have to go to Bombay City.
Located in Mariemont in the strip plaza Bombay City stands alone as the only owner operated restaurant amongst a fleet of corporate chains. However appealing a Mc Mess or an Arby Q may seem trust me... just drive on by the drive thru and check out Bombay City.
You’ll have to actually get out of the car and walk into the restaurant. Once you get there an actual server will take your order answer your questions and politely provide you with all you’ll need to satisfy your Indian food cravings.
Bombay City also features a buffet. While it may not be the biggest buffet around it certainly is a delicious one. You can choose from about a dozen dishes and all are made fresh. I was disappointed a little at first glance. I saw no nan bread and only a hand full of hot dishes. I need my nan.
The server explained they make the nan to order and mine was brought out promptly there after. I love nan and it’s even better right off the griddle.
Nan bread in hand I wandered over to the buffet. I started sampling with a spoon full of each item and a hand full of that savory basmati rice. I quickly realized I was going to get a great meal out of this humble buffet offering. After all, what good is 55 items if they all suck!
The tables were basically empty and it was peak lunch hour. I wondered how many people realize what a great deal Bombay City offers with this $8 buffet? I know the fast food joints were encircled with cars crawling through the chow line but where was Bombay’s customers? I think people just don’t realize how delicious this Indian cuisine really is (then again if you like Mc Donalds you don’t have good taste anyway).
Bombay’s buffet is great for a fast lunch, or even a healthy lunch. It’s also great for breaking in a friend who is new to Indian and not sure what to order. The buffet allows you to sample the flavors and get more of what you like or just secretly spit out what you don’t without the stress of returning a whole dish because you don’t like it.
Of course for you connoisseurs of fine Indian flavors you’ll likely want to order off the menu and get the dishes you know you love.
Bombay City has plenty to offer on the extensive menu. They have all the great appetizers you would expect from a good Indian restaurant like pakoras, samosas, nans, platters, soups and salads. After ordering your Onion Bhaji (think Indian onion fritters) appetizer you can choose from many specialties like curies, vindaloos, masalas, madras, tikkas and paneers. All available with chicken, lamb, seafood or veggie. Of course you knew that already right? Well did you know Bombay City offers you a dozen types of Nan? That’s right 12 Nan bread selections. You can choose from garlic, onion, aloo mattar (stuffed with potatoes and green peas), methi (sprinkled with fenugreek leaves), chilli (stuffed with peppers), paneer (stuffed with cheese), spinach, chicken, roti (whole wheat) and aloo or gobi parantha (whole wheat stuffed with potatoes and cauliflower). Wow! Now that’s some nan bread baby.
I’m glad I stumbled on this little Indian eatery because I crave Indian sometimes and Royal Taj has been a “Royal let down” the last two trips. Tiny meat portions and tough as jerky lamb has turned me off. I thought I had to drive all the way to Baba India to get some good Indian. I was wrong. Bombay City is close to home and as good as it gets. Stop in and try the buffet, don’t let the size fool you. They will have plenty to please.
