Battle

Putter’s Tavern 5723 Signal Hill Milford 831-5777

VS

Roosters 101 Old Banks Road Milford 576-9464

(Pictures of the items are at the bottom of the page.)

When BC Roosters set up shop across the street from Putters we knew it was inevitable... there had to be a battle. After all they both have a lot in common, both have a full bar, both have the game on at least a dozen TV’s, they both have a full menu and they’re both on 28 at 275. Nevertheless, only one can be #1.
If the Roosters folks had bothered to notice that EV was the Eastside’s Official Entertainment Guide this would have been no surprise. It’s certainly no secret, we deliver every 100 yards up and down the 28 strip and with 388 other delivery stops everybody knows where to get the straight skinny on what’s going on.
Putters was up for the challenge so we rounded up two qualified judges, ordered some identical take out from both places and the battle ensued. We chose common and popular items. The classic Buffalo Wings (a must on any game night), a Cheese Burger with everything, an Italian Sub and a Fried Chicken Salad. Sounds simple right? The choice for judges was simple too, Dom & Linda DeMeo! Dom & Linda own and operate DeMeo’s (Milford) and Bakers Family Diner (Goshen). They know what it takes to put out a stellar product and there’s no better judge than this pair of successful Milford restaurateurs.
With the judges seated and hungry in the DeMeo’s dining room we brought out each item anonymously and the scoring began. Points were awarded based on appearance, freshness, flavor and overall on all four items. No one other than EV staff was in the kitchen.

Item- Putters (First Number) Roosters (Second Number)
Italian Sub- 24/20
Buffalo Wings- 22/17
Cheese Burger- 31/12
Chicken Salad- 23/23
Total- 100/72

As you can see they tied on the chicken salad, other than that Putters kicked ass! Good Job Jan. The star of the show was Putters Burger. Big, fat juicy and delicious. Way better than most. By contrast the worse thing in the ring was Rooster’s burger. Both judges had doubts about it’s origins and suspected JTM of being it’s true father. Aside from that and the tie the rest of the scores were fairly close. Putters pulled it off in the end though and I think you can chalk that up to the fact that the owner and family are actually in the kitchen monitoring, tasting and training daily. By comparison, my guess is the owner of Roosters is out shopping for yet another location. Thanks DeMeos!
