Pub Grub
Bad Habitz
1296 State Route 28
Milford, Ohio
Milford Pub grubbers, the rest of the Eastside now has a reason to envy you.
Bad Habit
(formerly George’s) has a seven day a week schedule chock full of promotions.
Mondays are “Mug Nights” they’ll fill your favorite mug
for $5. Tuesdays are Karaoke night. Wednesdays are for the ladies with Ladies
Night and Hey Mr. D.J. Thursdays are a blast with Acoustic Night with Right
Turn Clyde ( see our November archive). Friday and Saturdays are always live
bands.
I know your probably saying “ Hey all that sounds great but this article
is Pub Grub right?” Well right you are. I’ll get to the grub
in a minute but first I have to give credit where credit is due.
The Eastside bars are booking more and more live talent every month. We’re
out on the streets bringing you the best and worst of it everyday.
I was disappointed that George (of George’s) was not interested in
booking any live acts. It’s a nice pub, clean and in a good location
so the live band crowd should jump all over the place.
He refused to even consider it.
Dave Voltz the new owner is a seasoned bar owner (he also owns Double D’s
in Fairfield) and wasted no time booking the bands on the weekends, as well
as creating a complete seven day promotional schedule. Dave has covered his
bases in order to make certain whatever night you choose to step out to Bad
Habitz you won’t be stuck sitting alone playing Mega Touch and wishing
there was something better to do.
Dave re-made the whole bar over with one exception... the food. The previous
owner had one thing going for him... damn good grub. The kitchen complete
with the cook stayed intact. I guess Dave believes in the “if it ain’t
broke don’t fix it” philosophy. I’m glad he does too.
I for one would prefer to eat at a nice locally owned pub than to patronize
some corporate chain crap factory any day of the week. I suspect most anyone
with a discerning palate would choose the same. However, It’s sometimes
difficult to get a real quality meal at a pub.
Most pubs live on the bar money and food is just there to have something
for people to munch on.
Bad Habitz has a menu for those who are in need of a serious meal. They offer
a variety of entree choices not to mention appetizers. Personally I often
find myself craving a decent burger. As simple as it may sound sometimes
a great burger is just the ticket. It may sound simple, but finding a good
one is far from easy. The fast food fools serve up their nastiness as fast
as they can. I just can’t stand them.
The Applebees, Fridays joints try to pass their wares off as superior...
but superior
to what? Fast food maybe.
Fortunately for us Cincinnati has a few burger aficionados... the “Burger
Guys”.
The Burger Guys have a great time driving around town and sampling every
burger they can find. I bet they have chewed up more beef on a bun than the
average cop has sucked down doughnuts (on second thought I doubt it, that
ain’t the kevlar vest that gives them their girth folks, even though
they would have us believe that). I take the Burger Guys seriously, mainly
because they are the first reputable source that has ever agreed with my
opinion of Zips Cafe. I’ve heard the ranting & raving of the other
papers for years now about Zip’s burgers “best in the city” and
so on. Well I’ve tried them and I was shocked. I will never understand
the fascination with that place. Little smashed out lumpy patties on a cheap
Kroger Bun. They look like something from a half-assed fourth of July cookout
on a budget. I’d pay half a buck for one If I was in a pinch but I’ll
never order one again on purpose. The Burger Guys also expressed their disapproval
of Zip’s burgers and I say Amen! Finally I don’t feel as if I
have a singular wit.
The reason I bring this up is because the Burger Guys sampled the burger
served at the pub in Nov. 2005 and gave it a 9.5, damn good showing! The
very same burgers served at the pub then are served there still. In fact
the same cook currently works at Bad Habitz (affectionately known as Taco)
and he still serves them up as fresh and delicious as ever. Owner Dave Voltz
prefers the rib eye sandwich. More hoagie than sandwich this thing packs
a punch. Nicely grilled rib eye topped the way you like it served with a
side of fries. It’s a carnivores delight. I can’t decide which
is prettier. I think instead of choosing between the two I’d rather
just eat half of both and take the rest home. But the real judge is you.
Get down to Bad Habitz and tell us what you think. Or if you already know
about it contact us at www.eastsidevibe.com we always want to hear the readers
voice, after all there is a whole hell of a lot more of you than there is
of us!
