EV was recently invited to attend a party at the new Anderson Center. The event was more than we expected to see. It featured several local food vendors (including Anderson Bar & Grill), frozen treat stands and even wine & beer vendors. The live music was provided by The Dan Varner Band and no one could have done a better job at kicking off this event series in style.
After taking a few photos and listening to a couple favorite DVB originals we wanted to know more about this cool event so we asked Eric Miller (executive director of Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce) to fill us in on the details and upcoming events. Here’s the interview.
EV: What inspired the chamber to initiate this outdoor event series?
EM: The Chamber does so many things with the business community throughout the year with programs and events, we were looking for a way to reach out to the residential community and I think having a concert and throwing a party is a great way of doing that. In addition it is a great way to show off the new Anderson Center to the community. A lot of people drive by and see the building, but not many people knew how great of a space it really is.
EV: Is this the first event of the season?
EM: This was the first ever Party on the Plaza and local favorite act The Dan Varner Band helped us start off with a bang!
EV: How many events do you have planned?
EM: We are taking it month by month, but theplan is to have one event per month through October (weather permitting).
EV: What is the cost to the public?
EM: It is absolutely free to attend the event and all concessions are reasonably priced $3 or under.
EV: How do you become a vendor/performing artist?
EM: Best way is to contact the Chamber office at (513) 474-4802.
EV: What plans to you have for the future events?
EM: The next event will be August 18th from 5:30pm – 9:30pm. The band is still being confirmed.
The first event was a lot of fun and you can bet EV will be at the next one. When we get the confirmation on who’s playing we’ll post it online (www.eastsidevibe.com). You don’t have to live in Anderson to enjoy the events at the new Anderson Center, all are invited.
