Jammin' with Antic Terror

Death metal fans flock to Big Ed’s for the hard to find local metal acts they showcase. Among the list of names Antic Terror is one of the most popular. Sure, you won’t see local bands like this in many of our city’s rags, but If CV is willing to put Dandelion Death (the most disgusting metal maniacs of them all) on the cover, then It’s only fair that CV should feature Antic Terror as well.
One thing’s for certain, this issue is about the most you’re gonna find in print on the band. In addition, exhaustive online searches reveal absolutely nothing about this band other than their myspace page (www.myspace.com/anticterror) and a listing on ww.purerock96.com under bands/artists. Antic Terror’s myspace features enough tunes to make it worth checking out. Antic Terror’s original tracks: Execution Eve, Messengers of Pain, Off With Their Heads, Black Tide, Nightmare Awakening and Judgement are loaded up to hear and buy. My favorite is Black Tide, the singular melodic metal tune. Other tracks show signs of modern metal (Judgement) tapered with old skool metal masters such as Slayer (Messengers), Pantera (Black Tide) and even Metallica (Off with their heads).

With local boys Jeremy Spence on bass, Jesse Morgan on the Flying V, Ray Bates backing them up on drums and Richie McLaren screaming in the mic, Antic Terror has a scorching sound of their own. The band’s own definition is simply, “Bringing Old School Metal to the next generation by combining the power of Metal, the energy of Punk and the aggression of Hardcore. With the use of progressive melodies and thundering rhythms this band sounds like a dinosaur walking through your living room!” I can’t argue that. True, these tunes do hit you like a 10,000 pound beast, but a dinosaur is too mainstream of an analogy, a Minotaur or some other beast from hell is more like it.
Studio time seems to be first and foremost with Antic Terror right now. No upcoming show dates are listed but I have a feeling a Big Ed’s show might be in the near future. Name one other club where people craze the deafening death metal vibe like the Big Ed’s fans favor. The metal-heads can’t be left hanging for too long or they’ll freak out altogether and wind up starting a riot. We can’t have that now can we.

Keep and eye on the Big Ed’s schedule in the guide section, they are always full of surprises. Not to mention keep an eye on Antic Terror’s myspace for an upcoming event. We’ll be posting any upcoming events as well. After all, where the hell else are you going to read about Cincy’s underground metal scene? Of all the local rags, only CV has the balls to put a wicked metal band on the cover and let me rant about the merits of hardcore metal.
